Oregon species list: reader questions
How many Oregon species have a page?
53, plus one page for the fish and shellfish ODFW closes outright.
Where do the limits come from?
The 2026 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations as ODFW publishes them on eRegulations, zone by zone.
Why do limits differ by zone?
ODFW splits the state into nine zones, from the Northwest to the Snake River and the Marine Zone, each with its own table.
Who keeps Oregon records?
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, in its record fish article.
Are clams and crabs covered?
Yes; Dungeness crab, razor clams, bay clams and other shellfish have pages from the Marine Zone table.
Are salmon and steelhead covered?
Yes; Chinook, coho, chum and steelhead pages carry the zone rows and the Combined Angling Tag rule.
Is bull trout open?
Mostly not: ODFW closes angling for bull trout except on waters it lists under Exceptions.
A species I hooked is not listed; why?
Only fish with a 2026 limit or an ODFW record get a page; the rest fall under group rows in each zone.
