“Juveniles are pelagic, living in the open ocean, and will hug nearshore sand-rock interfaces. Adults live along the rocky shelf and continental slope/basin areas in water depths from 12 to 425 meters (40 to 1,403 feet) and are most commonly found between 150 and 275 meters (495 to 908 feet).”
